BEACH Program Update
On August 16, 2013, the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department reopened the beach at Dash Point Park in Tacoma, WA. The closure was issued due to high fecal bacteria counts in the water.
Follow-up sampling indicated low levels of bacteria and an investigation showed no signs of further pollution.Dash Point Park is a Metro Parks Tacoma facility west of the Pierce-King County

BEACH Program Update
Mason County - Potlatch State Park near Hoodsport, WA is open for swimming. Beach caution signs were previously posted on August 2, 2013 due to a nearby failing septic system that has since been repaired. Follow-up sampling indicated levels of bacteria that meet water quality standards for swimming.

On August 2, 2013, the Mason County Health Department issued a beach closure at Potlatch State Park near Hoodsport, WA. The closure was issued due to a nearby septic system failure.

BEACH Program Update
Purdy, WA - Purdy Sandspit County Park is open for water recreation. Beach caution signs were previously posted on May 31, 2013 due to high fecal bacteria in the water.
The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department removed the caution signs June 5, 2013, after follow-up sampling indicated low bacteria levels. There is no longer a
public health concern.

If so, hit the beach but stay healthy!
Avoid swimming related illness by keeping diapered kids out of the water and dispose used diapers in the trash.
Kids love to play in those cool streams that flow down to the beach, keep them out! Small streams and creeks often carry bacteria from upland sources down to the beach.
Remember that warmer water + crowded swimming areas

Fecal Matters: All Beaches Around Penn Cove in Island County are Open for Swimming!
BEACH Program Update
All recreational swimming beaches around Penn Cove in Island County including Long Point Beach, W. Penn Cove Beach, Monroe Landing, Coupeville (Waterfront) Beach, Coupeville Wharf and Coupeville Town Boat Launch are open for swimming! New reports indicated that the discharge from the derelict fishing vessel has stopped and the fuel sheen has dissipated.

The Mason County Health Department closed Twanoh State Park to swimming today. Routine monitoring of the marine water showed elevated bacteria levels and additional samples confirmed the pollution is persisting.
Increased pathogen and fecal bacteria levels in marine waters can come from both shore and inland sources. Inland sources can consist of stormwater runoff, sewer
